Saint Claret College is an act of faith and love by the Claretian Missionaries of North East India, who have dedicated it to the care and guidance of the Immaculate Heart of Mary. Thus the Blessed Virgin Mary is the inspiration for the College. Jesus Christ, who is the Truth, Light and Life is its foundation. Its namesake, St. Anthony Mary Claret, is the spiritual patron. Blessed Martyrs of Barbastro, the 51 young Claretians who were martyred for faith in Spain, are its spiritual intercessors.

On the ecclesiastical level, the College owes its allegiance to the Roman Catholic Church and her immediate shepherd, Rt. Rev. Dr. John Thomas, Bishop of Itanagar.. At the Congregational level, its supreme head is Rev. Fr. Mathew Vattamattam, CMF, the Superior General of Claretian Missionaries.
