CIA

Assessment & examination

Every course of study at SCCZ is evaluated out of 100 marks — split between Continuous Internal Assessment (CIA) and the End Semester Examination (ESE). Here is how CIA is structured and scored.

CIA 20 marks
ESE 80 marks
Aggregate pass % 40%
Minimum aggregate (CIA + ESE) 40%

General Parameters

CIA stands for Continuous Internal Assessment; ESE stands for End Semester Exam.
If a paper has a practical component, ESE splits as: 60+20, 50+30, 40+40, or 0+80 (Theory + Practical).
CIA = Attendance (5 marks) + Average of best two of three internal assessments (15 marks).
One must obtain at least 35% in ESE-Theory and 40% in ESE-Practical.
Exam duration – ESE Theory: 3 hrs for 80/60 marks; 2 hrs for 50/40 marks.
Exam duration – Practical: 4 hrs for 80/60 marks; 3 hrs for 50/40 marks.
There is no scope for revaluation — only rechecking or retotaling.

Continuous Internal Assessment (CIA)

CIA consists of two Sessional Tests and a third component (assignment / quiz / seminar / project work, etc.), conducted by the course teacher during the semester. Each written test is of 1 hour’s duration, following the question pattern given in the course syllabus. There is no provision for improvement of CIA marks.

Sessional Test 1 20 marks
Sessional Test 2 20 marks
Third Component 20 marks
Best two of three, scaled to 15 marks

Attendance — up to 5 marks

90–100% attendance 5 marks
85–89% attendance 4 marks
80–84% attendance 3 marks
75–79% attendance 2 marks
74% and below No marks
⚠️ Important

Verification & Corrections

All students are required to verify the Continuous Internal Assessment mark statement before the Admit Card / hall ticket for the End Semester Examination is issued. Requests for correction of CIA marks will not be entertained after the verification period has lapsed.

Re-test During the Semester

There is no provision for a re-test in CIA, except in the following two cases:

A medical emergency — examined case-to-case, with the decision made by the Principal based on existing rules.
A test missed due to participation in a college-sponsored/endorsed activity, with prior permission of the Principal and consent of the HoD and course teacher.

An approved re-test is administered by the course teacher and held before the commencement of the End Semester Examination. Students must apply for a re-test by filling in the prescribed form.
